"Fabio" Bronze Sculpture

Pierre-Jules (P.J.) Mene French Spaniel “Fabio” Bronze Sculpture

A remarkable 19th-century French bronze sculpture by Pierre-Jules (P.J.) Mene, one of the most celebrated French animal sculptors of the period. A self-taught artist, Mene became particularly renowned for his highly detailed depictions of horses and dogs, capturing their anatomy, movement, and individual character with remarkable precision.

This sculpture depicts “Fabio,” a French Spaniel, and dates to approximately 1840. This is an especially interesting early casting, distinguished by its flat-based design, a feature that was discontinued after 1845. The combination of its early date, subject, and distinctive base makes it an appealing piece for collectors of French bronzes and animal sculpture.

With its beautifully modeled details and compact scale, Fabio would be wonderful displayed on a bookshelf, desk, console, or among a collection of antique sculpture and objets d'art.
